Development of active materials in catalytic, photocatalytic and photoelectrocatalytic processes for the sustainable production of hydrogen (energy carrier) starting from secondary raw materials deriving from biomass and, in the case of photo- and photoelectric-catalytic processes, also using renewable energy sources (sunlight / visible).
The focus is on reducing the content of critical raw materials, for example by decreasing the content of noble metals, while guaranteeing high performance in terms of activity / selectivity / stability in the case of heterogeneous catalysts for reforming, or using systems based on iron, such as hematite photoelectrodes, for photoelectrochemical water splitting active in sunlight.
The ongoing activities mainly concern the development of heterogeneous bimetallic catalysts for the steam reforming of biomethane
