Extracellular vesicles in liquid biopsy: finding the NEXUS
06 Maggio 2025 - 10:00 | 18:00
Sala Congressi, Area Ricerca Milano 1
Via Alfonso Corti 12, 20133 Milano
Nexus is organizing an in-depth workshop dedicated to exploring the role of extracellular vesicles (EVs) in liquid biopsy. The event will bring together a dynamic group of young researchers, recognized as future leaders in the field, who will engage in identifying the key challenges and requirements for the effective application of EVs in clinical diagnostics.
The workshop will foster an open and interactive environment where participants can share insights, discuss technical and scientific hurdles, and reflect on the current landscape of liquid biopsy research. As part of the session, the NEXUS project team will present the strategies developed within the project to address the identified challenges, offering a comprehensive overview of the approaches considered.
The preliminary agenda includes four invited speakers, who will bring different perspectives in the field of the EVs reasearch:
Dr. Jillian W. P. Bracht, Amsterdam University Medical Center
Dr. Kristiina Kurg, University of Tartu
Danilo Mladenovic, HansaBioMed Life Sciences Ltd and Tallinn University
Dr. Angelo Musicò, National Research Council of Italy (CNR-SCITEC)
The workshop is designed to stimulate discussion and knowledge exchange, providing a platform to reflect on the current state of the field and the direction of ongoing research. This is a unique opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the complexities involved in EV-based liquid biopsy and to contribute to shaping the conversation around future developments.

NEXUS is a project funded by the European Commission in the Horizon 2021 framework, under the EIC Transition to Open program. A multidisciplinary team will develop an easily customizable, integrated and automated platform that enables EVs separation, purification and multivariate characterization from complex biofluids, out of concepts and piloting results from former FET project INDEX.
NEXUS raises the Technology Readiness Level (TRL) and brings to the next stage the integration of a selective isolation and in situ enrichment of small EVs from plasma, with the in-line multiparameter analysis regarding vesicle size, number and immunopnenotype.
