ENHANCE - Eco-sustainable Platform of Smart Systems for Efficient Energy Harvesting and Storage
Abstract: Energetically autonomous systems based on smart materials and energy harvesting devices that lower consumption of energy resources (no need for batteries) while overall reducing materials and processing costs, operation times, and hazardous wastes, fully meet the global environmental challenges. This new paradigm opens the possibility of increasing the renewable energy availability on autonomous vehicles for environmental monitoring in remote and harsh areas, also adopting a scheme of sensor nodes connected to a central unit platform. ENHANCE project develops lead-free piezoelectric polymer-ceramic and thermoelectric polymer-2D dichalcogenides composite materials integrable in flexible PEH (piezoelectric harvester) and TE (thermoelectric) devices for producing sustainable electric energy by efficiently exploiting plentiful mechanical and thermal energy sources, such as natural environment/human/machinery vibration, bending, and pressure for PEH and solar energy and waste heat for TE.
